Chinese President Xi Jinping appealed to both sides for calm amid fears the worsening war of words between North Korea and the USA could lead to a military conflict with catastrophic consequences for the region.
Trump and Macron spoke over phone and discussed the need to confront the increasingly risky situation regarding North Korea's destabilising and escalatory behaviour, the White House said. "Our leaders need to encourage talks between North Korea and other countries, especially China and Russian Federation".
"Trump looks forward to seeing Xi in China later this year, a meeting that will be a very historic event".
The warm words exchanged between Xi and Trump Friday night in the US masked underlying tensions between Beijing and Washington over how to deal with the errant regime in Pyongyang. "The previous three presidents were not able to find an adequate solution [to the North Korea crisis], so he can't be blamed for all this".
On Tuesday, the commander in chief said the rogue nation "will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen".
Eric Bolling's $50M Defamation Suit Against Journo "Utterly Devoid Of Merit"
The Daily Beast obtained Ali's response letter to the lawsuit with his lawyers writing, "We view your decision to sue Mr. Glaser wrote that "Bolling's recollection and belief hardly constitute a denial of the accusations against him".
The comments came after Trump unleashed a slew of fresh threats against North Korea on Friday, declaring the US military "locked and loaded". Friday morning, Trump tweeted that the military was "locked and loaded" should North Korea "act unwisely".
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has said the regime of Kim Jong Un is responsible for the crisis over North Korea's nuclear programme and must now "fix it". The U.S. hasn't taken any public steps to prepare for hostilities such as evacuating Americans from Seoul, which is within range of North Korean artillery, or moving ships, aircraft or troops into position for an imminent response.
Developments regarding the situation with North Korea may remain in focus next week, although traders are also likely to keep an eye on reports on retail sales, housing starts, and industrial production.
Trump also reiterated their mutual commitment to denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, it added.
The Chinese foreign ministry said Xi urged Trump to avoid "words and deeds" that would "exacerbate" the already-tense situation and to exercise restraint and seek a political settlement.
