City manager Pep Guardiola will be under pressure from the start after strengthening his squad with five new signings in the transfer window, costing the club some $286 million.

Guardiola, a former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager, has yet to win a trophy since taking charge of City at the start of last season.

Fellow new signings Bernado Silva, Kyle Walker and Danilo are also in line to feature, though new recruit Benjamin Mendy is missing with a thigh strain.

Ederson added that the opportunity to work under Guardiola played a significant role in persuading him to sign for Manchester City.

"We needed to do that this summer because we have one of the oldest teams in Europe".

Guardiola said: "Hopefully next season I will be here and we are not going to spend how we spent this season".

"I have a feeling that we will score early and get a good win against Brighton on Saturday".

"Last season in my first press conference we were the favourites so nothing has changed". "I know it's a big responsibility considering I have become one of the most expensive goalkeepers". "It's the same pressure as I had last season". I think it will be a draw. "If the club decides [I am] not able, we are going to take a solution".

The Frenchman has been a major disappointment since joining City in a £42million deal in 2014, and spent last season on loan at Valencia.

Shearer feels things are not right behind the scenes at Chelsea for the moment and believes they need at least two to three players to challenge for the title again this season. The group of players are going to stay here for a long time. Sooner or later it's going to finish. That won't matter too much, as they now have Premier League football to enjoy. "We are going to see at the end of the season what happens, knowing how hard it is".
