6ABC News also received the following statement from American Airlines.

American Airlines flight 759 from Athens, Greece to Philadelphia International Airport briefly encountered severe turbulence shortly before landing safely in Philadelphia.

Of the almost 300 people on board American Airlines flight 759, three passengers and seven crew members were evaluated, the airline said in a statement.

Flight attendants had just finished handing out drinks before the plane lurched, causing drinks to go flying and people to slam into the ceiling, according to reports.

"We are taking care of our passengers and our crew members at this time and want to thank our team members for keeping our passengers safe", said an airline spokesperson following the incident.
