A CRANE has collapsed onto an apartment building in Sydney's south, injuring at least three people.

Footage shows the crane leaning against the damaged building on Brodie Spark Drive at Wolli Creek, after it fell about 9.30am today.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated three people at the scene for minor injuries.

Some residents were woken by the noise of the crash.

The top units of the building appear to have sustained structural damage.

Resident Simon Murphy had been anxious about the crane.

"By mid-afternoon [yesterday], I said I can't believe that they've built that crane on that platform, and my wife and I discussed what would happen if it were to fall", he said.

In a statement released a short time ago, police confirmed no one was inside the crane at the time.

Road closures are also in place, with police urging motorists to avoid the area.
