Florida State junior WR Da'Vante Phillips has been charged with five counts of fraud. Those include grand theft and cashing or depositing items with intent to defraud. Following the news, Jimbo Fisher has suspended Phillips indefinitely from the team.

Florida State lost its top four receivers from 2016 (Travis Rudolph, Kermit Whitfield, Dalvin Cook, Jesus "Bobo" Wilson) and will rely on Nyqwan Murray (Oak Ridge HS graduate), Auden Tate, George Campbell (East Lake HS graduate), and Keith Gavin to step up to fill the void. Multiple injuries prevented Phillips from making an impact, and 2017 figured to be the year where he could compete for playing time. He was also ranked the 11th-best wide receiver in the 2015 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Phillips has just five catches in two years with Florida State, but he was expected to provide depth to a thin wide receiver core for the Seminoles in 2017.
