"Transformers: The Last Knight" tops Chinese box office

The action sequel, which arrived in theaters on Wednesday, took in over $69 million between opening night and Sunday, $45.3 of which was on its opening 3-day weekend, according to film tracking website Box Office Mojo.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" smashed its way to the top of the North American box office, industry estimates showed Sunday, sending last week's hit "Cars 3" to second place.

Second place was a virtual tie between the animated adventure, Cars 3, last weekend's leader, and Wonder Woman each with $25-million. Worldwide, the Gal Gadot-starring Wonder Woman has grossed a total of $652.9 million for studio Warner Bros.

The top total grossing movie on this weeks global top 10 is Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazars Revenge which is still released in 56 countries and has a global gross of $677.8 million.

Paramount executives and other investors aren't likely wringing their hands this week after Transformers: The Last Knight debuted in China with $120 million*, but beneath those box office numbers lie some troubling signs suggesting Chinese moviegoers - who have contributed an increasingly larger share to the franchise's global box office over the past decade - are losing interest in Michael Bay's bombastic vision.

José Mourinho accused of £2.9m tax fraud
Mourinho coached Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, guiding the club to wins in LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana. Ronaldo's trouble coincided with the same Madrid-based prosecutor's office accusing Mourinho of two counts of tax fraud.

I'm proud of you, domestic audiences! "I mean, that's just the Michael that I know, but you never know, sometimes people decide to move on, so we'll see what happens". It's been nearly a month since Wonder Woman first hit theaters, 24 days at the box office with $318.1 million and counting.

Likewise, Guy Ritchie's "Arthur: Legend of the Sword" made $137 million at the box office, just enough to consider it an abject failure.

Future business will tell whether those grosses are enough to cover a hugely expensive movie: $217 million to make, plus almost as much to market. "Transformers 5" made $123 million in China in its first week. The previous movie in the series, "Age of Extinction", made the majority of its money ($858.6 million) overseas.

And Kumail Nanjiani's critically adored romantic comedy "The Big Sick" should earn $435,000 during its opening weekend in five locations - that would give the Lionsgate and Amazon Studios release the highest per screen average of any film that has opened this year so far.
