Connor McDavid announced as National Hockey League 18 cover athlete, trailer revealed

McDavid represents the first time an Oiler has ever been featured on the cover of an EA Sports NHL title outside of NHL 14's West Edmonton Mall's special edition that featured Jordan Eberle.

National Hockey League 18 developer EA Vancouver will once again hold a beta. The main new mode, NHL Threes, is an arcade-style take on three-on-three hockey, with faster-paced action and bigger hits in a rink that's three-fourths the size of a standard one.

According to a press release, NHL 18 features a new 3-on-3 game mode called NHL Threes. Interested parties can sign up now for more details.

Along with the unveiling of the cover athlete, EA Sports also showed off a brand new gameplay trailer for the upcoming hockey simulation. Starting today, players can pre-order the EA SPORTS NHL® 18 Young Stars Edition* and EA SPORTS NHL® 18 Young Stars Deluxe Edition*, which each include three days early access to the full game starting September 12th and Connor McDavid content, including a Connor McDavid Rookie HUT item, a Connor McDavid celebration, and a custom HUT jersey designed by adidas and Connor McDavid.

National Hockey League 18 is built to deliver the speed, creativity, and action of today's young new National Hockey League through Creative Attack controls and the all-new Defensive Skill stick.

Additional features include the new Expansion Draft coming to Franchise Mode, Hockey Ultimate Team Solo Challenges, and a new Hockey Training Camp created to ensure players have immediate success on the ice, and much more. The Young Stars Edition also features 20 Gold Plus Packs for Hockey Ultimate Team and a Rookie HUT item from a team of the player's choice. A 10-hour trial of the game will be available for EA Access subscribers on Xbox One starting September 7.
