Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking the potential for storms as we head into the overnight hours from Sunday into Monday.

Today's severe thunderstorm watch comes on top of an earlier flash flood warning for most of upstate NY.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued in Upstate New York for the second day in a row.

"I'm staying inside. I used to live in Florida and the thunderstorms out there were bad". Up to 60 miles per hour wind gusts and quarter size hail are possible.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the state in a level two out of five (known as "slight") risk for severe weather and the southwestern part of the state in a level three out of five (known as "enhanced") risk for severe weather.

Additionally, the Weather Service has placed a large segment of our region under a flash flood watch until 9 p.m. That will interact with extremely humid air and gusty winds. With the increasing sunshine, our atmosphere is becoming increasingly more unstable.

The storms will clear out late in the evening and the weather should turn quiet overnight. Strong to severe storms are capable of producing frequent lightning, damaging wind gusts and hail. The line may wane a bit as it crosses the spine of the Appalachians, but then is expected to re-intensify on the eastern side.
