Woman gives birth on flight, baby gets free Jet pass for life

Jet Airways announced that being the first baby to be born in flight for the airlines, the kid would get a free lifetime pass for any travel on the carrier.

Due to the diversion, the flight crew declared fuel emergency to ensure that adequate priority for landing was accorded at the Jaipur airport, Jet Airways said in a statement today. The mother and child were taken to Holy Spirit Hospital in Andheri, where doctors said they were doing well.

Generally, airlines offer free lifetime travel for babies born mid-air on their flights.

Jet Airways allows women to fly up to 35 weeks of pregnancy with "fit to fly" certificates and medical clearances depending on the type of pregnancy. A nurse who was travelling to Kochi along with the crewmembers helped the passenger in delivering the baby. In April, a 28-weeks pregnant passenger onboard a Turkish Airlines flight went into labour shortly after the aircraft took off from Guinea capital, Conakry, for the Burkina Faso capital. The crew, accompanied by a trained paramedic on board, provided medical assistance to her. "The airline thanks Ms. Wilson for her guidance", a spokesperson said.
