Trump lawyer: President not under investigation in Russia probe

President Donald Trump has acknowledged that he is under investigation in a probe into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 United States presidential race and possible collusion by his campaign - and appeared to assail the Justice Department official overseeing the inquiry.

His comments appeared to directly contradict Mr Trump's own tweet this week, in which he appeared to refer to deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein when he wrote: "I'm being investigated for firing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director by the man who told me to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director".

"And if President Trump were to fire Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein, and then [get] special counsel Mueller fired, I believe Congress would begin impeachment proceedings".

Former FBI Director James Comey told the Senate intelligence committee that Trump pressured him on the Russian Federation investigation and asked him to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The order from the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government. The official demanded anonymity because the official was not authorized to be named discussing the deliberations.

Sekulow made similar arguments in another Sunday interview with CNN's Jake Tapper. Sekulow accused Wallace of rephrashing him, and Chris Wallace said that the tape will speak for itself. "Witch Hunt", had nothing to do with any official investigation into President Trump's activities. "He's being investigated for taking the action that the attorney general and deputy attorney general recommended him to take by the agency who recommended the terminations!" "That's the constitutional threshold issue", Sekulow said.

Sekulow did acknowledge on "Fox News Sunday" that he "can't read people's minds", but said there had been "no notification of an investigation" of the president by Mueller. The president's lawyer noted that some Democrats called for Comey's dismissal because of the way he handled the email investigation into Democratic candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"We want to use it to resolve mysteries such as the evolution of black holes and the strong magnetic fields of neutron stars". It would also enable engineers to explore ways of using pulsars as benchmarks for new-generation space navigation technology.

Sekulow said his legal team had not received notice of any probe into Trump.

"How do you know?"

"You're right, Chris. I can not read the mind of the special prosecutor", Sekulow responded.

Wallace: You just said that he's being investigated.

"That bill is not going to go from that group to the President's desk", Rubio said.

The department would not comment on the record on whether Trump, who has repeatedly complained about leaks on the case, requested the statement.

"Oh boy, this is weird", Wallace responded, noting, again, that Sekulow can not know there is no investigation. In addition, the WaPo article was published on Wednesday and Trump didn't send out that tweet until Friday. "And the president has a very effective utilization of social media".
