Portugal sees Ronaldo fully focused on Confederations Cup

The Confederations Cup is a real test one year before the World Cup, and we will have a much better sense of where Mexico fits in the world soccer puzzle after these two weeks.

Portugal twice surrendered the lead against Mexico in their Confederations Cup opener on Sunday but the 2-2 draw was no cause for alarm, according to captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ricardo Quaresma saw his opener cancelled out by Javier Hernandez before the half-time interval before Cedric scored late into proceedings only for Mexico to equalise again through Hector Moreno.

The provincial government has ordered checks of possible safety risks at the production site, the Xinhua report said. In January a man with a kitchen knife wounded 11 children at a kindergarten in southern China's Guangxi province.

Portugal are fancied to go well, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe and new Manchester City recruit Bernardo Silva named in a squad that looks to have a great mix of youth and experience.

Ronaldo has not spoken to the media in Kazan and his staff said it would not comment about the recent issues involving the player.

"I think we were superior, we created more chances and we leave the field frustrated", Cedric said.

Ronaldo was also involved in one of the game's biggest talking points, a "goal" that was disallowed after consultation with the Video Assistant Referees. He, along with Nani and Ronaldo, are coming towards the last years of their career and it is hard to see how Portugal will adequately replace them after the 2018 World Cup.

"My conscience is quite clear", Ronaldo said Wednesday as he walked from a Portugal team bus into Lisbon airport on his way to Russian Federation. Portugal are the European champions and have won seven matches out of nine since beating France 1-0 in the final of Euro 2016. Both teams will be looking for the three points after Russian Federation came away with a win against New Zealand in the first game of the competition.

The second half had little action until the final 10 minutes when, after goalkeeper Ochoa brilliantly saved Andre Silva's header, Soares' lung-bursting run into the penalty area saw him score with a huge deflection off Hector Herrera. The teams drew 0-0 in a friendly in 1969, and in 2014 Portugal won 1-0 in another exhibition match.
