The Tehran Security Council had convened an emergency meeting after two terror attacks occurred on the Iranian Parliament and Imam Khomeini Mausoleum respectively on Wednesday.

Daesh has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombings and gun attacks on parliament and the mausoleum of the Islamic Republic's founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, on Wednesday.

Iran said its security forces on Saturday killed the mastermind of a twin attack on Tehran that left 17 people dead this week, as security was tightened around the country to prevent other possible plots.

Today, the head of the justice department in Kordestan province in western Iran announced more arrests.

While ISIS claimed responsibility, Iranian officials have also suggested Saudi Arabia may have played a role - and Iran's foreign minister called the official USA response "repugnant", after President Trump ended his expression of condolences for the victims with the message that "states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote".

Alavi also added that the safe house used by the five terrorists who carried out the attacks in Tehran was discovered by security forces and the brother of one the terrorists, who according to the minister was even more risky, was caught by the intelligence forces.

Alavi maintained that 42, 43 terrorists were identified and arrested following the June 7 terrorist attacks, saying some of them were in connection with the Tehran twin attacks and some of them were planning for terrorist acts in the future.

As the Tehran Times reports, "Iran has been helping the governments in neighboring Iraq and Syria in fight against Daesh, which considers Shiites to be apostates".

Press TV also stated that Iran's intelligence forces had neutralized over 25 terrorist cells in the country over the past few months.

Iranian lawmakers said the intelligence minister had assured them that "all Islamic state elements have been eliminated" in the country.
