The US president has denied trying to influence the investigation, but acknowledged in an interview that Russian Federation was on his mind when he dismissed Comey. "The tweet from the president was a response to the five anonymous sources that were purportedly leaking information to The Washington Post about a potential investigation of the president".

"I don't believe it's going to happen", said Rubio on CNN's "State of the Union". "Many new jobs, high business enthusiasm, massive regulation cuts, 36 new legislative bills signed, great new S.C. Justice, and Infrastructure, Healthcare and Tax Cuts in works!" he wrote.

"Witch hunt" is how Trump characterizes the probe into Russia's election interference and possible ties to his campaign associates.

Sekulow said his legal team had not received notice of any probe into Trump.

The US President announced on Friday that he was being investigated for firing former FBI Director James Comey, and seemingly trained his guns on deputy attorney general accusing him of overseeing a "witch hunt" against him.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is a "man of integrity" and should be permitted to continue his investigation into Russian involvement or collusion, Sen. Comey testified to Congress that Trump then asked him to back off the investigation into his fired national security adviser, Michael Flynn. He said Trump's statement on Twitter Friday was specifically in response to a story in The Washington Post about the expanding probe into Russia's election meddling. Schiff said he wants the White House to acknowledge the tapes or make clear there are no tapes and "it was an idle threat".

Senator Marco Rubio, who lost the Republican primary election to Trump, called for a "full and credible investigation". Angus King, an independent from ME, stressed that the probe will likely last for a long time. This is a very complex matter, involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents, lots of witnesses.

Trump left Saturday with his wife and young son to spend the weekend at Camp David for the first time, and is scheduled to return to Washington late Sunday. "Military runs it so well and are so proud of what they do!" he posted.
